I have been blessed to have some wonderful examples of mothers in my life. All three are so different, but I appreciate each of them so much.
My mom, Ermie: Born in Germany during World War II, she has been a survivor since day one. She remembers an impoverished, war stricken Germany as her very first memories. She came to the states at 18, taught herself to speak, read, and write English and received her citizenship. She raised us all to speak our minds honestly, work hard, and most of all the love the Lord. Her faith in Jesus Christ, which she passed to us, has helped us through times of trial. She taught us to pray when everything else fails. She is one of my very best friends. She is a wonderful woman and I adore her.My mother in law, Kate: She embodies class and is a wonderful example of how to balance a successful home life and a successful career. She is more than patient, kindly listening and loving in every circumstance. Kate has a wonderful way about her that makes you want to share your heart and thoughts with her, yet she is careful to never say, "you should" or "you need to". She gently guides her children to a place they need to be and somehow makes them feel that they arrived there themselves. She has shared the fullness of the gospel with me, answered my endless questions, and accepted me into her family in a way I could never have imagined.
My "other mother in law", Sandi: She is a spit fire and a woman who has drive and an amazing work ethic. Even after the divorce, she continues to love and support me as a mom and friend. She is always willing to help and jump in whenever needed. She is more prepared than a boy scout, with a purse filled with everything you would ever need if stranded on a desert isle! She is a planner, organizer, and practical but still has stories of roller skating in the house when her kids were teenagers. She got a tattoo as her 50th birthday gift to herself. She is a wonderful Grammy to the boys and a great friend if you are lucky enough to have her in your life.
Thank you all for teaching me and loving me into the mother I am today. I love you!
